It’s a paradox that the most advanced european countries in edible insects breeding are the ones in the north of the continent.
Everyone knows that the mild climates are those that best meet the needs of this kind of activity, also from an economic point of view, just think about costs related to the environmental control and artificial lighting.
But, we have become accustomed to these paradoxes, we see them everyday in the field of solar energy, for example.
The South of Italy. A topic that is a the-same-old-soup topic even abroad. The potential, the huge problems, the infrastructures, the eternally-unattended development plans.
No.
Certainly edible insects will not solve all these problems, but this is not the point.
The points are: Italy, the South and its climate, edible insects, the food industry.
Even a child would be able to connect these points to get a clear image, perfectly understandable, even obvious.
It would be too much to expect that someone from abroad come to invest in South Italy, let’s be honest: there are not the conditions, and I’m not referring to conditions in the South of Italy, but in the Italian-system in general. But italians, unfortunately used to that, have less difficulties in believing that running a business here is still possible, somehow.
If we add to the soup a bit of boureaucracy, of absurd fiscal pressure, of institutional laziness and normative uncertainty, then only real fools would eat it.
Real fools, no doubt.
Edible insects. South Italy. Fools.
