My name is Giacomo Nieri, I have a Master’s Degree in Food Management and today I will start my collaboration with “L’Entomofago”, dealing with China. My passion for edible insects started when I was reading books on Chinese medicine several years ago, then I really got into Entomophagy.
Actually, China has 20% of the globe’s population but just 7% of arable lands. The challenge to fill this gap and to feed all of its citizens has several options. First of all, there is a concept called “land grabbing”, concerning acquisitions of arable lands on a large-scale in developing countries such as Africa and America Latina. Secondly, the development of innovative technologies in agriculture sectors through the acquisition of foreigner know-how.
As a result, would entomophagy present itself as a viable option regarding food consumption in chinese urban areas?
I’ll share with you my experience and my interest in order to understand entomophagy and its economic aspects in this huge country called China.
