There is a whole universe we are still basically unaware of.
A part of this is all around us, bigger in numbers and varieties on this planet, it lives in our homes and gardens. But we ignore it, it desgusts us, we study all kinds of products to keep it away from us.
But insects are not only a resource for environment but also a resource as food and nutritional complement for humans (and animals). In many areas of the world entomophagy is an important part of food culture, drastically less in Europe and in the West generally speaking.
But.
Everything is changing.
And this changing is the main reason of existence of L’Entomofago, the first specialized media.
The European Parliament vote on Novel Food on the 28th of October 2015.
The cultural and gastronomic approach to edible insects consumption is changing very quickly.
Normative for insects farming and consumption is developing very quickly too.
The seeds of an imminent new economic sector are sprouting.
New professions -and new variations of others existing- are emerging.
There’s a growing public awareness about the unsustainability of our actual food production system.
In the near future we will certainly need alternative sources of proteins, such as new drugs, new materials and fabrics, new ways for waste treatement.
There is positive dynamism. A lot.
There was an empty information and communication space that L’Entomofago now fills up. With the goal of becoming an aggregator and a megaphone, a node of a relationships network, a window always lit, an authoritative journalistic and scientific voice.
We will work this out through interviews, contributions of scientists, representatives of Institutions and experts, focus on companies and start-ups, market and lifestyle news, outlook on the European and extracontinental situation.
Supporting a sector that promises to grow healthly, strong and full of opportunity is an honor. It is also a challenge we’ll face with enthusiasm.
